Magic ring / Fadenring
When you crochet in rounds, patterns often say to start with 2-3 chains and close it with a slip stitch, then crochet into the ring or the chains in rounds. The created loop cannot be closed and leaves a hole in the middle of your work.
To avoid this hole, you can use the magic ring instead.
The magic ring is a very easy trick to start crocheting in rounds. The magic ring or circle is an adjustable loop, into which you will crochet your stitches. After that you can tighten the loop and there will be no whole in the middle of your work.
How to do a magic ring? / Wie mache ich einen Fadenring ?
1.
Start by making a loop around your fore- and middle finger.
Beginne mit einer Schlaufe um Zeige- und Mittelfinger.

You should have two threads of yarn running parallel on your finger.
Über deine Finger sollten 2 Fadenstränge parallel laufen.

Pull the ring carefully off your fingers and hold it where the two threads overlap.
Den Ring vorsichtig von den Fingern ziehen und an der Stelle, wo sich die Fadenstränge kreuzen, festhalten.

Now insert the hook through the loop.
Jetzt die Häkelnadel durch den Ring führen.

Yarn over…
Faden holen…

…and pull a loop through the ring. This loop does NOT count as a stitch!
…und ziehe eine Schlaufe durch den Ring. Diese Schlaufe zählt später NICHT als Masche.

Yarn over…
Faden holen…

…and make a chain stitch. This is the first real stitch in your work.
… und eine Luftmasche häkeln. Das ist die erse Masche deiner Arbeit.

Now insert the hook through the loop under both threads of yarn and yarn over again.
Führe die Häkelnadel durch den Ring, unter beiden Fadensträngen hindurch und hole den Faden erneut.

Pull a loop through the ring…
Ziehe die Schlaufe durch den Ring…

… you have 2 loops on your hook now. Yarn over and pull through both loops to make your first single crochet.
… es befinden sich jetzt 2 Schlingen auf der Häkelnadel. Faden holen und durch beide Schlingen ziehen, um die erste feste Masche zu häkeln.

This is your first sc. Repeat steps 9 – 11 to crochet as much single crochets as you need. Remember to keep on working your stitches over both threads of yarn!
Wiederhole die Schritte 9 – 11 sooft bis du die Anzahl der FM, die du brauchst, erreicht hast. Vergiss nicht, alle Maschen über beide Fadenstränge zu häkeln!

This is how your sc in the magic ring should look like.
So sollte das Ganze dann aussehen.

Once you are finished with making sc, grab the loose thread and pull to tighten the ring and close the gap in the middle.
Wenn du die gewünschte Maschenanzahl gehäkelt hast, ziehe am losen Fadenende, um den Ring zusammenzuziehen und die Lücke in der Mitte zu schließen.

It should look like this now.
So sollte das jetzt aussehen.

Close the round with a slip stitch into your first sc.
Schließe die Runde durch eine Kettmasche in die erste FM.

And your first round is finished. Now you can crochet in rounds like you need.
